1980s Fresas

A subculture which developed in Latin America translates to ‘strawberries’. Considered to be a group of teenagers from a high-income and well educated families.

Although characteristics were based upon wealth, the majority of people who chose to follow the Fresa subculture were not so. It was of how people acted and spoke. Vocabularly was often spoken with a posh tone. They were considered to be unintelligent.


Brands were essential, such as:

  • Ralph Lauren
  • Lacoste
  • Tommy Hilfiger
  • Ray Ban
  • Guess
  • Levi
  • Armani

Mexican band Mana 2009

 Sombrero Verde, Lo Siento http://youtu.be/fFBJojPrZsQ. Hugely successful Mexican band now called Mana were popular with teens in 1980s.

The subculture disappeared  as the 90s approached with the introduction of hip hop and reggaeton.
